Weekly Highlights
I spent the better part of the week trying to figure out what might be wrong with my RSS reader until finally realizing the flurry of Cloudflare news and activity was real.
If you're utilizing their services in your infrastructure, you might be interested in their new e-mail services beta program, expanded feature set for non-enterprise customers, new Content Signals Policy, Ladybird project sponsorship, initiative to hire 1,111 interns next year (a nod to 1.1.1.1), or NET Dollar – Cloudflare's new cryptocurrency for the AI-driven internet (eye roll).
The Plex team was also busy dropping content left and right for their Plex Pro Week, an annual event where they partner with popular content creators to shill features we already know exist (with this year's branding leaning heavily into chrome and liquid glass). Personally, this year's biggest takeaways were the official release of their API documentation and learning what Techno Tim looks like without a hat.
In other related news and content:
- A random blogger made the front page of Hacker News after mistakenly accusing hotio (a popular Docker image creator/maintainer) of bundling crypto mining software with their images (spoiler alert: they don't)
- The team at Raspberry Pi officially released the 500+, a Pi 5 embedded into a mechanical keyboard with RGB LEDs (it starts at $200 if you don't feel like clicking through)
- A Self-Host Weekly subscriber recently created a self-hosted WordPress course and is giving away the first few modules for free (not an affiliate link)
- YouTube made some backend changes that will require a new approach for third-party download tools to continue working

Meet AuthPortal, a lightweight authentication gateway. Built as a simpler alternative to existing platforms like Authentik and Authelia, AuthPortal leverages existing users across Plex, Jellyfin, or Emby to manage access and sessions across internal services. Features include an Overseerr-like login popup, signed JWT session cookies, simple env-based config, LDAP support, and more.
AuthPortal can be easily deployed via Docker and requires an external PostgreSQL database for data storage.
